U10As clinch Kevin Keogh League Cup
Granada U10As beat local rivals Cabinteely 2-1 in an exciting final at Jackson Park on Saturday 29th of May 2010 to win the Kevin Keogh League Cup.
Jun 3, 10
After weeks of sunshine, the day started miserably with rain and mist. Most of the adults seemed reluctant to leave their cars with some hoping they could watch the match from there. I know there were some early morning nerves before we got to the ground but all the boys seemed to relish the fact that they were able start running about kicking a ball. It struck me that there were lots of smiles and laughter as the boys got ready and no real tension (the same can't be said of the sideline). This has to be a very positive reflection on the boys and their coaches.
The game kicked off at a phenominal pace with most of the controlled football being played by Granada. Some early chances came and went before James Tarrant latched on to a through ball and skillfully dispatched it to the corner of the net. Cabinteely were quickly back in the game as you would expect of such a strong and skillful side and from a free kick (corner? - can't remember) one of their players drilled the ball home from inside the penalty area as it bobbled around in the confusion. Back came Granada with force and determination and having worked the ball skillfully up the left wing, the ball was played into the penalty area where Justin Carroll managed to connect and send the ball flying past the goalkeeper into the net - 2-1 to Granada. More end to end stuff until half time came and gave us all a break.
No more goals in the game and while the truth is that Granada continued to create the best chances, there was always the risk of a break-away goal or the ball skidding into the net from a long shot. It was great to see all of the panel making such a strong contribution to the result and everyone hassled and harried the opposition throughout the second half. The goalkeeper and defence looked rock solid throughout with some great long balls relieving the pressure. Everything that was thrown at them was dealt with with calmness, skill and determination. The same can be said of the rest of the team with the entire midfield getting stuck in and making it impossible for Cabinteely to build any momentum while helping to create a number of chances. Up-front, everyone ran their legs off to hold up the ball and were unlucky on a number of occasions not to add to the scoreline.
The final whistle was greeted with delight and some relief. The entire panel and coaches deserve great credit for creating such a strong team with a fantastic skill level and positive attitude.

U14 Premiers Loose ''Mighty Battle''
Jun 1, 10
Our U14 Premiers lost out narrowly (4 -3) to a very impressive Brookfield team in the final of the Premier League Cup...
Unfortunate not to be at least one up after 10 minutes the lads found themselves down 2 -0 after 15 & 4 -1 down at half time. The half time score line did not reflect the game and the lads knew that they were still in this game.
Taking the game by the scruff of the neck the lads bombarded the Brookfield goal and should have scored early in the second half. On 15 minute into the second half a superb cross by Cormac Cullinane was met by a Sean Galvins left foot volley that crashed to the back of the net. A couple of chances missed and a bad offside call went against us we were still chasing the game. A superb save by Dylan O Reilly kept us in the game and we scored a third.
There was great relief and cheers on the Brookfield side when the final whistle was blown. The lads can be very proud of their effort and let it be said that lesser individulas would have ''thrown in the towel''.
Well done lads!
